The word 'missional' has been tossed around quite a bit in Christian circles lately, but by the looks of it, few have actually grasped its meaning....
Church CEO's
"Church leadership acting as CEO’s of nonprofit organizations complete with ‘hiring and firing’ abilities, is a relatively novel development in the history of Christianity...."
The Gospel
The gospel (good news) about Jesus Christ.
How to Measure Ministry Progress
The real test of ministry progress is how successfully you are making disciples who make other disciples, not how many people are sitting in the pews.
What if Starbucks Marketed Like a Church? A Parable

Keeping Jesus at the center for over 2,000 years
This clever brand mashup makes a profound point about Coke's long-standing battle with Pepsi. I use this illustration to make a profound point about our faith.
Tithing is biblical, but not Christian
This post takes a look at the biblical practice of tithing, and how it has very little to do with how we are to manage our resources as believers under the new covenant.

Why Did We Stop Using The Bible?

I just found out that the origin of the quote, “Hate the sin, love the sinner,” came from Gandhi. Makes you wonder how much of cliche Christianity is counter-scriptural, doesn’t it?

I just found out that Francis of Assisi NEVER Said, “Preach the Gospel at All Times; When Necessary, Use Words.” That kind of shocked me, since it is one of the most quoted statements in evangelicalism these days. I guess even he knew that it really is important to share the Gospel using words. 1 Corinthians 15 is a great place to start. See Christianity Today for more.
“The Bible’s purpose is not so much to show you how to live a good life. The Bible’s purpose is to show you how God’s grace breaks into your life against your will and saves you from the sin and brokenness otherwise you would never be able to overcome… religion is ‘if you obey, then you will be accepted’. But the Gospel is, ‘if you are absolutely accepted, and sure you’re accepted, only then will you ever begin to obey’. Those are two utterly different things. Every page of the Bible shows the difference.”
~Tim Keller
Two quotes this week! I am very busy this week so maybe no posts… we’ll see. Without further ado, your two quotes to ponder:
“We have sometimes rejoiced greatly when we have had as many as a hundred added to this Church in a month, yet I have gone away and said to myself–’What is that hundred, after all? It is not sufficient to keep pace with the increase of the population.’ It makes us very sad to know that the increase of sinners far exceeds the increase of the converts to God.”
~ Charles Spurgeon
The “main problem churches face is not that they are culturally out of touch, but that they are theologically out of tune.”
~ Pastor Tullian Tchividjian
HOSTING I've experimented with several hosting companies and have dealt with my fair share of horrible customer service and poor site performance. Until I found HostGator. The 24/7 customer service is great and my uptime monitor has never fallen below 99%. They deliver what they promise, and more. I'm really happy with their service and pleased to recommend it to others.
