I was actually writing a post about the social gospel, and then I ran across Daniel and Heather’s blog post on the subject. I couldn’t have said it better….
I also recently discussed this on my post about preaching the gospel without words. Be sure to read the comments for the discussion and feel free to chime in!

Hi Dan… Just wanted to say that we’d still be interested in hearing some of your thoughts on this whole topic, as we’ve begun to see it as one that could warrant a whole series of posts addressing it.
The interesting thing about this whole “phenomenon” (for lack of a better word), is that it appears to not be limited to one particular “sphere”, but instead can be seen to be cropping up almost everywhere, whether it’s in traditional or non-traditional camps. It cannot necessarily be traced back to one author, or some cadre of authors and teachers. This message, whereby social action is put at the forefront and the cross is placed in the rear (thereby effectively nullifying the power of the cross), can take so many forms, and be articulated in so many subtle ways. There is no real set of easy “buzz words” to look out for, or obvious “red flags”.
And it is because of the subtle nature of this deception that we are increasingly wondering if this might not be one of the most powerful traps facing the Body of Christ in our particular time. The events going on around the world today all seem to be working to only draw people further toward a message which places humanitarian relief over eternal salvation…
But we must take it seriously when the Word says:
“If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.”
1 Corinthians 15:19
peace to you guys…
I actually have a post about it from the past entitled “Kingdom Extremes,” which can be found at http://prayeramedic.com/2009/04/kingdom-extremes/
I’ll write some more thoughts soon however.
